I started running Rosetta on a Skulltrail in April and rapidly climbed to Top Computer in RAC. Mission Accomplished in proving that Skulltrail can do an awful lot of multitasking. Then I kinda shut down for a couple of months, or at least let the box sleep when it wasn't busy (you gotta have a Skulltrail under your desk blowing heat to know what I'm talking about, and this is a home office and personal electric bill).

In August, the Rosetta@Home folks released the production version of their GPU-based client. I asked myself, "How efficient are Rosetta and Folding running together?" So I started up Rosetta again and added Folding on an nVidia 8800 GTX to the mix. The climb back to contention started...

The answer is VERY EFFICIENT. As of today, I am back to #4 on Rosetta RAC for an individual computer, and Folding rank is 20,000 out of 1.1 million. Both are still climbing, but today's the day I stopped by the Cafe Rosetta.

My hats off to the many professionals who make these programs available. They are very solid.

Next test bed is a G45-based quadcore Q9550 (4 x 2.8 GHz)

You beauty, I have passed 1,000,000 cobblestones on Rosetta.

Despite the under par credit system (i.e. well below Seti standard app), and the fact that awarded credit has dropped for me by 3 cr/h over the last month (I am done to between 10 and 11 cr/h, which is very low.
I have still managed to get past this milestone, it has taken 3 years.

I will now try and get the team across the same milestone.

I have been doing BOINC since around 1999. It appears I have one of the slowest computers in history. All of you have much more than me!!

We ALL started small and expanded into where we are now. I too started in Seti in 1999 with one pc and have come up to the current 16 pc's. I have been higher, 23 at one point, but the electric bill got to be too much. I now try to go for quality instead of quantity. I still have some single core machines but they are being replaced, slowly, with dual or quad core machines. Give yourself some time and you too will find pc's everywhere for free, or nearly free, and then you too will have more.

Guess I should post something here having started in Feb 2008:

Reached 100,000 credits 2009-01-07, just inside the top 125,000 position in Boinc today.

Got inside the top 10,000 in Rosetta on 2008-12-28 (now 9120)
Should get to top 400 Rosetta in the UK by the end of the week (currently 419).

Congrats Sid!

I don't watch the stats. But your post got me curious and I started checking it out... and came to realize I just crossed 1 Million BOINC-wide credits!!

Here's to more crunching in 2009!

Cheers guys. The first post was a marker for myself to help monitor my progress. I stated with a single core AMD XP2400+ until July when it conked out (a processor upgrade to XP3200+ that went very wrong) before jumping to this quad-core Phenom, partly because I knew it would be fully utilised by BOINC. Amazing how rapidly it boosted me and my team since then.

When I can get some consistent time at home I have recruitment plans which I hope will boost my team scores significantly as well.
