so yea that would be fine except it doesnt listen to a thing i say. Like trying to cut down on the ram to make up for the processor. So its just running on 90% for some strange reason. set to 100. piece of junk i mean i guess they might have found a cure for schizophrenia but then they confuse me by coming out with 2 at the same time. sqeeker mc sqeekn sqeek

If i read correctly... i7s can have 4 cores and another 4 virtual cores enabled. Each core taking about ~300MB... You do the math ;)

Yes, and BOINC's defaults tell it to try and play nice, and not run so much work at once that it takes over your memory. So, I'll bet you've got at least one task that has a status of "waiting for memory". If you want to utilize all the CPUs you will have to allow BOINC to use more memory in such a case.

He is running the 64bit version of Windows so he could probably add more memory and that would help too, right? I mean the 32bit version of windows is limited to 3.5 gig of usable memory but the 64 bit version is not, so he could add another 3 gig of memory and that would fix the problem? I ask this not only for him but for other users too, me included, as I am dreaming of having an i7 machine using all 8 cores and not having this problem. Chilean said 300 meg per core times 8 cores is only 2.4 gig of memory but the OP said he allowed 90% of available memory which is 90% of 3 gig which is 2.7 gig, if my math is right. I guess after Windows takes its share, then whatever else is running takes it shares, there is not 2.4 gig left!

The 300MB Chilean gave for Rosetta task was intended to be an average. I've seen many tasks exceed that.

Also the OP said 90% about CPU utilization, not memory preference. So I presume default configuration of preferences is likely.
