Hello I have been able to run boinc with a gui fine on OS X and Windows fine but now I am trying to run it on a spare Linux box which I had trouble. I don't want to run a GUI on this machine so I tried using the command line version, I know my way around the cmd on nix so I am no n00b but boinc on the cmd have been very frustrating so far, for example where is the bloody configuration file? It seems to me the cmd version is not well polished. I was able to attach my account to boinc now it has my username stats and stuff but it can't download atything to work with, because it doesn't have any disk space to do so, well duh I need to configure it first but where do I configure anything? I can't find anything where I can specify the CPU%, hard disk space, or anything like that. So how is this suppose to work? |

The easiest option is to configure your project preferences so you don't have that problem in the first place. It sounds like you have disk space requirements set too high, for example. Configuring local preferences should be the exception, not the rule (for quite some time local preferences weren't even an option). If not, the next best option is RPC. Do you have another machine nearby with the GUI already installed? Put a password in gui_rpc_auth.cfg and then attach to BOINC remotely. And finally, there's the manual option. Configure another client the way you want it and then copy over the file global_prefs_override.xml |

Configuring local preferences should be the exception, not the rule (for quite some time local preferences weren't even an option). Ok, but I don't see _any_ preferences, local or not. If not, the next best option is RPC. Do you have another machine nearby with the GUI already installed? Yes, but it is not like I don't know how to use the command line, it is just there are no clear documentation, I mean, usually command line utility have a conf.example file, or a man page, or a wiki, but when it comes to boinc I've looked everywhere and they are nowhere to be found. Put a password in gui_rpc_auth.cfg and then attach to BOINC remotely. Glad to know that would work, however I rather not rely on another computer everytime I want to change configurations. |

To configure from the website, click the [ Participants ] link at the top of the page and look at the preferences section of links. You must complete an update to the project for your machine to see any changes. To configure from the shell command line, review the doc in the wiki here: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Boinccmd_tool Rosetta Moderator: Mod.Sense |
