Hi, since I do switch of the computer because of electricity saving measurements, I also have to switch it on again. After that do start the Boinc manager and start crunching.
Every time I start the manager it opens in a pretty small window. I can not see all I want to see. Is there a way to open it with a larger size, so I don't have to enlarge it by hand?
Is it something I can do myself, or is it baked into the program and can not be changed so easily?
I do use the Linux 6.6.4 version of the Manager.
Who knows his/her way around in the program?

It's the same in Windows XP. As I recall from my previous computer, it happened in Windows98 as well.

Fortunately, I only reboot about once a week intentionally. Happens more often sometimes, though, because of new and updates to software.

Something that may work (at least it often does in Windows):

After rebooting and starting BOINC again
Resize the window to what you want
Go to the File menu, hold the Ctrl key, click on Exit
Open the program again to see if your settings saved

If that doesn't work, try sizing the window to what you want, double-click the top of the window (between the BOINC Manager text and the little minimize and close buttons; this will make the window go full-size on the screen), and double-click the top of the window again to have it go back to its previous setting. Sometimes this works.

Theres a config file for boinc manager in your users home folder, unhide hidden files and edit the file ".BOINC Manager", edit the values Width and Height, you'll find them close to the top of the file.

You have to open the Boinc Manager to start crunching? From your hosts list it looks like a Ubuntu kernel and since that is Debian based its better to just use the repos to install Boinc as a daemon, it will then start crunching at boot, no need to open boincmgr or even log in.

Thank you for your help, but unfortunately it doesn't work. I can set the width as you mentioned, but the next time I open the manager, it's back to its original size.

Yes, I do use Ubuntu but I start it automatically. How to set it up as a daemon which starts automatically?

Oh, and the developers have taken note of the fact that the settings for the window size are not being properly saved ... maybe in the next major release this might be fixed...

And, I have this problem with most versions also. I just have taken to hitting the max button out of sheer weariness ...

I tried it again, and the setting does not stick if the manager is open while editing the file. Close the manager, edit and save the file and it works. Using Debian Lenny with KDE.

To install boinc as a daemon on debian based distros:
"sudo apt-get install boinc-client boinc-manager"
or use the package manager if you prefer GUI. It will probably downgrade your boinc-version so if you need the latest client for GPU crunching and so on it requires you to manually copy a newer binary to /usr/bin
