Hello,

We would like to distribute boinc client allready attached to rosetta@home and preferably with a team number to track success of our project.

Is it possible to prepeare a client like that so users will only need to double click installer and thats all..?

I think that would make it too easy for surreptitious installers.

since boinc client is only in english and needs some settings to run, its complicated for some people. If we can handle this issue we will probably go on with rosetta if not we will try fah.

It will be a social respnsibilty project in our university and probably we will be able to donate a massive amount of cpu time.

It would be ideal to have an easy way to create an .msi file that has all of the options pre-populated. We could preselect the project and the user / password. Most users never need to know that info anyway.

If someone creates the .msi file, they could have all of these systems reporting under 1 user ID. Imagine how fast the credits would accumulate.

Thx!

Paul

i guess superlink has done that before..

Credits or rankings are not important for us we only need to track how many people we reached and how many of them actively participating in the project.

If you figure out an easy way how to track the results plz let me know. And thank you for .msi tip. I will try to learn more about it..

Here is a link to some information on some of the relevant files.

If you are planning installation on Windows, then you have to incorporate the preset files into and .msi. You can deploy with the weak account keys. They allow the client to attache to the project, but not to post to the message boards (you need to know the account password for that). And you can measure your installation and participation rate by observing the number of hosts attached under the account. All the credits will go to the team this account belongs to. So you could either look at team credit, or account credit.

If you are in a campus environment, perhaps you could create more then one .msi. One with account 1, and one with account 2. Both accounts belong to the same team. But account 1 is distributed by women, and account 2 is distributed by men (or management/non-management, or pharmacy majors/engineering students... whatever). Then you could create some competition, by measuring credit of each user account, and yet measure results as a unified team as well.

I believe Ethan made such an installer for UW. I will try to dig up his thread.

Here is Ethan's original thread discussing what they did at University of Washington.
