I by the off chance happen to notice an email pop in my many emails. A team founder request. I am still active (semi) so why is this possible ? A quick check New members in last day Thomas https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/show_user.php?userid=33988 tompage1994@hotmail.co.uk (please spam this email thanks) He is trying to take over my team. Now if I remember correctly and by the wording of the email, if I had missed this email I would no longer run the team (and more than likely it would change name and have everyone kicked. Sod all the effort we put in to it. Not only that, he would gain access to the email address's our team members have trusted me with. I'm sure some of the lawyers in my team could sort some sort of charges out against you if it did happen, on privacy grounds. Pissed off and upset with Rosetta@home :( Now please stop this ability before a Team Teddies saga starts again. Team mauisun.org |

the change function is disabled. upon trying to complete a transfer request, the user will get this message: "The team founder transfer option is currently disabled." |

I by the off chance happen to notice an email pop in my many emails. This cuts both ways. I've been on the other side of this, trying to get a team founder change since August 22. Although our "team founder" never folded a single WU, and never posts regarding the project, we can't get rid of him. After no progress in my request, I'm shutting off my participation in this project. In three weeks time, after a 60 day waiting period, you could have done *something*. Adak |

I hope if you slow down a bit, you could understand this is nothing Rosetta@home-specific. You are fighting against the wrong party. Peter |

So Fluffy, it sounds like the function is disabled and the founder change will not in-fact occur... but you got an EMail anyway? It must not be entirely disabled. It was a patch to get by until a version of BOINC is installed with a more permanent solution. Rosetta Moderator: Mod.Sense |

I'm sure some of the lawyers in my team could sort some sort of charges out against you if it did happen, on privacy grounds. Peter, I checked with BOINC. They said it's up to Rosetta, that the transfer option has been enabled with BOINC. Of course, Rosetta sends you an email, confirming that you've applied for the position, and stating you need to wait 60 days for the current team founder to respond to their email query. Then, every time you log in, and look at your team page, it tells you that you've applied for team founder, and on what date you can make that transfer, if the current founder does not respond. Only after the 60 day wait, only when you click on the "assume founder" button, are you informed that the team founder transfer has been disabled. You don't have to worry about me slowing down, Peter. ;) |

Peter, I checked with BOINC. They said it's up to Rosetta, that the transfer option has been enabled with BOINC. Yes, that's Rosetta's failure to think just of the "bad guys" and not to inform the "legitimate guys" immediately about the whole 60-day process being switched off. It was a fast responce to the situation, but an incomplete solution. Peter |

If I wasn't so pissed off that a person who had just joined the team to activate founder change and the email I got was a this is it and your only chance, I would have slowed down. To be honest it is Rosetta that are responsible, it is THEIR project, BOINC is just a system that they choose to use. It is not for me to get the BOINC team to do it, it is up to Rosetta@home to ask the BOINC team to implement what they need and find as problems. First: If it is disabled, then I should not get any email and the person taking it over should not even get the chance. Second: A politer email would be better and may be send it every week and a PM to me in the forum as well (i.e. ever means possible to get me). I might miss that one email in a pile of other messages, unfortunately I have a life (sort of ;)) and do not visit here as often as I would like now. So 1 or 2 month is not very long. Third: Privacy of the emails from the people who trusted me to them, would need to be rechecked with everybody in the team if the founder changes. Fourth: If I am inactive and not sending tasks back, fair does ... as long as the person taking it over has been crunching in the team for a few years wrt how old the team is or is a Vice Leader. ---- and yes I have been around BOINC for a long time, participated in the boinc lists etc... Okay, my quick fix was not a good fix for the situation. Sorry about that. I modified the foundership change page so that it now just says it's disabled and to contact me if you have a legitimate request. I don't feel comfortable changing founders since there is no guarantee that transfers will not get abused however, I'll take the requests case by case and decide on what action to take. |

Okay, my quick fix was not a good fix for the situation. Sorry about that. i think that's as good and fair a fix as the project can offer until the software is updated. |

Great to have a deft handling of this, eh? You can't bother sending me an email or a pm? That's so odd, because I was sent emails saying I could become the team founder, and whenever I viewed my team's page, throughout the 60 day waiting period, it showed me the very date that the transfer could be completed. Thanks also for burying this change of policy, in the middle of an obscure thread. Meanwhile, I've been waiting for 11 weeks, and received nothing but a "no". It must be a hard choice between having a current team founder that never folded a single WU, versus myself, with other 390,000 points. I sincerely doubt that David E K, has the sense that God gave to geese, but I'm quite sure that he's completely turned an enthusiastic Rosetta folder, into someone who has no interest at all in this project. |

Adak, as you see in this thread, the whole issue is a sensitive one. There were problems with people taking over teams (and their historical credit) when it was not appropriate. And, believe it or not, you were the first one to notice and request a team change in the months since that time. So, now that a process is established, rest assured the way is now paved for others that are in your position, and yet the door is guarded to prevent hostile takeovers of teams. Hey guys i need help i'm the current founder of the University of Utah team and someone has issued a request, although when i go to decline the request the page doesn't load and the request is still there. It says i need to respond by april 2007 and seeing as its june 2009 is there something wrong? How can I make sure my teams not going to get taken over? |

...perhaps the request has actually been there since 2007? As it says earily in this thread, the team take over function has been disabled for Rosetta@home. Rosetta Moderator: Mod.Sense |

...perhaps the request has actually been there since 2007? well thats the thing i just barely became founder of this team because the old founder wasn't answering my messages or running the team. So i emailed dekim and he gave the previous guy a time limit to respond and he never did so i have control now. and now it looks like the previous guy is trying to get it back. he still refuses to answer my messages or talk to me.. so i'm not too inclined to give it back. but what action do you recommend i take if any? and thanks for your help :) |

...perhaps the request has actually been there since 2007? Hi Ian, just ignore the request. the team founder change function has been disabled so you will not lose your foundership status. |

Hi! I am founder of TomaszPawelTeam! I would like to reserve so that nobody can never take control of my squad. How I can do this? Even if for some reasons I won't be active for long time? WWW of Polish National Team - Join! Crunch! Win! |

Hi! I am founder of TomaszPawelTeam! Sorry, you can't do that. If you're inactive for a long time and someone wants to take over the foundership duties, I think it's fair for that person, particularly if the founder cannot be contacted. |
