I would like to get my old iBook running rosetta but the new versions of rosetta such as 1.39 and 1.40 don't run on ppc processors. The beta 5.98 ones do work but every time I request work on my ibook it either gets nothing or says there was work for other platforms. I get alot of these WU's on my mac mini so I know rosetta is still giving out 5.98 work units but my iBook can never find them. So can I make my iBook find only 5.98 WU's or is it a hit or miss deal when finding work? |

Unfortunately, it is rather "hit or miss". The scheduler keeps a limited list of tasks it might use to satisfy the next request, and if there aren't any within that cache, then it will report back that there is work, but for other platforms. To make the list longer, or to make the scheduler search all available work would slow it down too much. It sounds like you are already aware that BOINC, and Rosetta@home are not supporting the power PC Macs in future releases. So, this difficulty in finding work will be an increasingly common occurence in the future. Rosetta Moderator: Mod.Sense |
