I have a computer, 546128, that is a Linux system. It is a quad processor system. It will only get four tasks most of the the time lately. Sometimes it will get 5. I have not seen it have more than one extra task in weeks now. This is a problem because my internet connection is not very reliable right now and when it goes down it stays down until I fix it. And since I don't spend all my time monitoring my internet connection it can be down for hours before I notice its down and fix it. This means my Linux system can be without work for hours and hours. I do not understand why only this system is not getting extra work for its work queue. My two MS Windows systems both download lots of work for their work queues. All systems are using the same preferences. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

You can tell BOINC how often you typically have internet access in your network preferences. You can configure this for up to 4 unique "venues", or in the local preferences for each machine. So, perhaps set it to something like connect every 1.0 days, and get an extra .4 days of work, or whatever suits your situation.

Mod.Sense,

In BOINC manager the local settings showed I was connecting every 0.1 days and getting extra work for 1 day. I changed it to connect every 1 day with extra work for 1 day and did an update. It connected and here are the results:

Mon 21 Jul 2008 07:46:26 AM PDT|rosetta@home|Sending scheduler request: Requested by user. Requesting 0 seconds of work, reporting 0 completed tasks
Mon 21 Jul 2008 07:46:31 AM PDT|rosetta@home|Scheduler request succeeded: got 0 new tasks

And again, ONLY the Linux system is not getting extra work. My MS Windows systems using the same preferences get extra work.

BOINC is not requesting any work. Perhaps it has recorded a history of this machine not being powered on full time? Or perhaps you've recently changed your Rosetta runtime preference and BOINC hasn't fully adjusted. Or, perhaps you have other projects configured, and BOINC is planning to switch and work more on them for the near future.

You can increase the additional days of work. That should bring you more.

Check what BOINC is showing for the estimated completion time on the tasks you have now.

I solved the problem by detaching from the project. Deleting all the files in the BOINC data directory and then re-attaching. Now I get lots of tasks for the work queue. One hundred sixty five right now.
