I think you have to choose the 'install as a service' option and uncheck the 'Launch Boinc Manager on login' box.

Is this as a business or something? If you're running AD, you can push it out via startup script.

You can choose "Start", then "settings", then "Taskbar and Startmenu" and then the button in the right corner near the bottom "adjust" or something it is called. There you can alter the preferences for the icons.

Either install as service, or run boinc.exe instead of boincmgr.exe.

EDIT: if you just run boinc.exe then you should use the redirectio flag as well... 'boinc -redirectio'

Its ok, they have been running FaD for the past 2 years or so.

AD cannot be used.

Just single installs from what I remember hm saying.
About 20xP4 2.6GHz I think.

I've read through that but it doesn't say (or make clear) how to do what I asked.

- All Users & Single user install Boinc Manager. (not wanted)
- Service doesn't install Boinc Manager but then it's a service and always runs. (not wanted)

Just wanting a simple install like all users but without BOINC manager launching at startup, but boinc running in the background.

There's no specific option to just install a command line bonic client.

What I do is install the client in Single user mode (I'm the only one using my computers), but I don't have it start at windows start up. I then create a short cut which starts boinc.exe not boincmgr.exe, and then I put that shortcut in my startup directory.

It's not a perfect solution, but it works for me.

Does it still automatically download new work units and upload back the finished ones? Or do you have to do it yourself using the Boinc Manager?

Yes it does. Boinc Manager (boincmgr.exe) is just a gui front end (like Boinc View). Boinc.exe is the actual client. In fact, if you have open your task manager you'll notice that if you start boincmgr.exe it will start a boinc.exe process. So really all I'm doing is starting boinc.exe manually. Once boinc.exe is running I can use boinc manager (or boinc view) to manager my client.

Note: if you start boinc.exe manually, you should use the -redirectio flag. Also, when you start it manually a cmd/dos window pops up, if you use -redirectio you can close it, otherwise without the -redirectio flag all trace output will be sent to the cmd/dos window.

no way to keep it from popping up a display? So installing the client as a service is the only way to keep it from popping up or displaying stuff...

I know of the work around ;) was just hoping I was missing something during the installation procedure (stupid boinc developers, they should add another option on the next screen after selecting tpye of install to be.
Keep hidden ?
