Sorry, I can't offer any immediate help.

However, here is a direct link to the task in question.

problem is that you didn't make any decoys, so there is nothing finished to send back...

the second 1 is a wierd one. cause it didn't create any decoys, or it just didn't list them, it hasn't reached the half of its runtime, so i should say there could be done another model. but yet it is sended as complete, but dous not gets past the validator.

Hi

Since Jan 1, I’ve gotten 30 validate errors, only 6 successes and 20 or so waiting to run.

This one is fair rep of the bad ones. 130401418

I also run SETI on this machine with no problems.

Ideas, anyone?

Thanks

This in not a perfect answer, but a partial explanation:
From the chatter here on the boards, the current batch of WU's includes a large proportion that require "high memory" (i.e. >= 768 MB).

Your computer reports 1 GB of RAM, so you get those high memory WUs.

BUT, you have a dual core processor, so each task actually gets only 512 MB.

Default for BOINC is to use a max 90% of available RAM when the computer is idle or 50% when the user is active.

Vista seems to need more "headroom" than Xp.

SO, your WU's are getting at most 461 MB in which to work, and sometimes less than 256 MB

The workunit to which you left a link in your post was successfully completed by a computer that had appx. 1 GB of RAM, but was a single core CPU running Xp.

My reccomendation:

Until BOINC figures RAM on a per core basis, or until the Rosetta app is next updated, I would suggest you set your preferences to allow use of only one CPU.

Okay, I’ve chopped it back to only use 1 core, and I’ll watch it close for a couple days to see if that helps.

Thanks for the info and advice.

Are you sure the OS gives each core half of the RAM? I thought each core could use all the available RAM not already in use.

J2satx, you are correct, the machine can use memory where needed. The question is how the BOINC server sees your memory when comparing to the amount required by the tasks available to send from the project server.

Wouldn't BOINC have to go with the max installed RAM minus whatever the OS uses for housekeeping?

Isn't that the number reported by Boincmgr?

This is how i have mine setup allowing for OS & background tasks i've

never had a problem.

Memory: 1021.32 MB physical, 1.00 GB virtual

General prefs: no separate prefs for home; using your defaults

Preferences limit memory usage when active to 817.06MB

Preferences limit memory usage when idle to 919.19MB

Preferences limit disk usage to 0.93GB

Are your processors dual-core?

The other guy has 1Gb RAM, but he has dual-core. Theoretically, his cores would only see half the memory you have for your core. I also have 1Gb per core for all my computers and don't have a problem with not enough memory.
