Hi i have an error that keeps popping up, sometimes is causes the computer to totally freeze or else it laggs and stutters a heap before being able to correct itself,
its only happening when i go to the boinc manager and then click on to view graphics

I have an X800 Series ATI Card.

this is what the event viewer says:

Source is "ati2mtag" category is "CRT"
event ID "45062"

thats from in the computer management.
It just frooze up and one of the WUs it had been processing for the past hour failed and it said it was a computation error. can anyone help me with ideas, ive done the upgrade of every driver i can think of yet its still doing it

Thanks

Hi Uulian.

It might be a silly question, but have you got the lateist DirectX

and openGL files. Boinc can have problems if you don't and can affect

some project app's.

Pete.

here

...will show the error CRT invalid display type, the source is ati2mtag. This occurs with Catalyst 7.7 and higher.

... the workaround is to install Catalyst 7.6.

here Why this error is not "This error will not cause any issues to the system or performance." and more like "Yea, other than freezing the game having to reboot, no performance problems"

Hope that helps.

Did you fully remove the other version of the dirvers first ?
Newer verions may have different files and it may leave the newer driver version causing problems.

Remove all drivers for ATI reboot and try again.

May not work, but at least it's definatly not a proble.

also check you motherboard drivers.... these have graphics related parts..

also set it to single display output...

(just some things to work through).

Does showing the Seti graphics cause this problem ?

ATI drivers (was a just in case idea). Boinc doesn't have any options and it doesn't support dual monitors directly (i.e. cannot display graphics on them both). Not sure if v6 of boinc willl.

Attach to seti or some other project just to test out, it if locks up it's more likely a driver/boinc problem than a specific driver/rosetta problem.

Though ATI have been known to have problems under the boinc platfrom, just that CRT error you had has never cropped up. (I realised that was fixed)

ATI Radeon cards have poor dual monitor support. I can crash XWindows just by playing a movie file if dual monitor output is enabled. It's a "known bug" says ATI. Make sure your config is set to just one screen.

Also, run DxDiag on Windows and test your Direct3D output.

OK ran DxDiag, all test successful. How do i check that dual monitor is disabled when i dont have the catilyst isnt installed only the ati driver and the wmd driver?

Right click your desktop and goto properties -- Settings -- Advanced. Under there somewhere should be a setup for dual-monitor. If not, then I think the default is "clone" meaning put the same screen on both video card outputs. While you're in there, make sure the monitor type is set correctly; either pick your exact monitor or choose "plug and play monitor". If there is a solution, it's either in the advanced properties somewhere or in the registry (grrr).

Perhaps someone else who has more experience with ATI can help. I just got my first ATI card working last week. :)

Actually just
Display Properties - Settings, no need to go to advanced.

You'll see all your possible screens, just check there is only one active.

That boinc version should be fine (it is the latest release version)
