I've been working on a cacheing system that allows all the machines, on a given local area network, to share all of their file downloads.

This system is great for environments where you have machines that do not all have access to the internet. Also works well if your only internet connection is with low bandwidth. It also saves the Rosetta servers from doing the downloads to each and every one of your machines.

So, I am curious, how many of you have multiple machines at the same site?

My cacheing system runs on Apache and PHP5. How many of you are already familiar with Apache and PHP?

PM me an EMail address if such a cache might help in your environment.

I have multiple computers at my home, and during the winter months (when they're not competing with the air conditioner) they are all crunching Rosetta.

While bandwidth is not an issue at my end, I would be pleased to try anything that might take some of the load off the servers at bakerlab.org :)

I know what Apache and PHP are, though I have no personal experience with them. The notion of setting up a download server is interesting, not frightening.

I am! (now!)

I can vouch for the system - its very effective at reducing downloads and isn't difficult to set up.
