Some bad luck...
I'm surprised to see your Boinc is still using the Rosetta 5.81. In my Boinc sub folder, all applications I can find are the Rosetta 5.82 & Rosetta_beta 5.85.

I'm too much of a newbie to tell which step to take next.

well if you get any of the below tasks you can try them out or abort them.
maybe your computer comes up with something different.

if you get any of the _1 stuff that i have listed, that defiantly an abort. since two computers tried them and both suffered errors.

According to the Boinc FAQ, the -185 error means:

This is an error that will occur when:
- if BOINC couldn't start the application
- if files are missing
- catch other error returns
- on nonzero exit or signal
- if exceeded resource limit
- catch-all for resume/start errors

I would detach, delete the rosetta project folder (normally located here: C:Program FilesBoincprojects) and then attach to the project again.

greg, do you have a fixed-size page file?

if so, it might be that rosetta is filling it and then crashing...

erm maybe you should read some more at the forum. in the porblems with topics it says, all symm fold and dock relax 2257 have been cancelede from the queque du to high error rates.... so just remove them and crunch something else :)

it's not just those ones that are VM hogs - i think it's 5.85 that's the problem.

dcdc - no fixed page file size, all settings are default minus swap file space which i gave it part of a large unused partition of my e: drive to use.
if it was a virtual memory issue wouldn't it say something like that in the error messages either in the boinc manager log or in the outcome status report?

you will also see I posted a bunch of other stuff in a seperate 5.82 and 5.85 threads (see my list in the 5.85 thread) as well also with the same 185 error and it was not just crystalfold although that makes up the majority of the compute errors i have.

i lost 20 credits in that mess as well as wasted compute time. really annoys me that someone did not check the tasks before they were released. I was on the way to rebuilding my RAC after some other problems when this crashed and burned.

any other ideas other than missing info from what the log output says?

now that this bad batch has passed through, everything is back to normal.
ive been running 1ubi filters with no problem and the crystalfoldanddock with fragment 2257 seem to run ok now. must have been just those particular tasks or part of the file name thing that was going on. life seems to be back to normal now.

but you do have some right wu's otherwise a deatach deinstall reinstall reattach would seam the solution.
