HI im new to Rosetta, Used to use Seti a few years back and ran it for quite a while (years), I then moved around and stopped using it. This week i reinstalled Boinc and started using Seti again, then came across Rosetta, and the benifit to help such a good cause i couldnt resist. Ok, I have read thru the messageboards, and i am confused a little, I have a Inter Dual core E6600 @2.4ghz Yet I dont know where to go to change the Boinc settings to use dual core cpus, Can someone please point in the the right direction, as im now starting to wonder wether my pc is only recognising it as 1 cpu or 2 |

Hi Uulian Your computer is recognised as dual-core - see here: https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/show_host_detail.php?hostid=659185 Boinc will use both cores by default - if it isn't then the problem might be that you've changed the preference? You can have a look if you hit: Participants (at the top of this page) > General Preferences > View or edit Make sure 'On multiprocessors, use at most' is set to at least 2. If it was set to 1 then, in BOINC Manager, hit 'Update' under the 'Projects' tab so that it pick up the new preference. Otherwise it could be your memory preference which is limiting the amount of RAM available to BOINC (although i doubt it as you have 2GB). Have a look under the messages tab in BOINC manager for a clue... and post the messages here if you're not sure. HTH Danny |

the other issue im having atm is that if i have my screen saver on, it locks the system up and i have to turn the pc off via pullin the plug. |

the screensaver lockup is probably due to a driver issue - have you got the latest drivers for your graphics card? |

the other issue im having atm is that if i have my screen saver on, it locks the system up and i have to turn the pc off via pullin the plug. i also had something like that, try pushing ctrl+alt+del, it worked for me. it showed me the login menu of XP, the same as you boot, or log off with other user. |

if i click on task then show graphics, it all moves ie the RSMD and the accepted energy. but as soon as it goes to screen saver its just a still shot. |

im sorry to be an idiot lol, how can i change the settings to give it more than 500mb, its running ok, but its still jumpy, theres two tasks running one is always a hell of a lot slower than the other i would have thought they would go thru to 100% about the same time, also giving that different tasks have a different sized download. if you could tell me wat settings to change to tweak it to best performance id appreiecate and suggestions as my way of looking is i have all this cpu and i rarely use 100% of it, this machine only used for browsing and the occasional movie |

well i can create a bit of slowness when you've got a few programs running and you start another1 because rosetta has to find out a program wants memory so rosetta has to give the memory to the program you want to run. this could cause your system to work slowly to +/- 1 to 2 minutes., from my experiences with a single core 1024 rig. |

normally when i am sitting at my pc and wanting to watch it for 5 minutes, all i have is msn running, not signed in, no other programs going, because ati will reboot the pc, i upgraded the drivers yesterday had this running all night came back in this morning (wasnt running in "show Graphics views" ) i have a pci-e ati x800 card is that likely to be the problem? |

Ok i have reinstalled windows and my system, all the settings in boinc are back to what i had. its running alot better now, and also the temp of the cpu has increased alot, first thing anyone will say when reading this is that it will be because of the work load, but... it was running all yeasterday on the same settings @ around 30-42 degress cel. now its 50-60 degress cel. any ideas? |

Hmm thats hot but not drastically hot. One of my Q6600's hits 75 under TAT loaded but thats with a hefty 3.51Ghz overclocking and its now watercooled so heating problem gone. What sorta case and CPU fan are you using? The Core 2's will take quite a lot of high temp running but for example my Q6600 at stock 2.4Ghz barely passes 45 with my Zalman cooler on it and Quads obviously run hotter. I wouldnt stress too much but look at remounting you CPU fan (the stock ones are notorious for having a leg or two unclip randomly) and/or getting a beefed up CPU fan. Or you can just leave it and keep an eye on it but its well within spec. |

I phyiscally built the machine 6 months ago, it has a big typhon heatsink and fan, its all dust free - i do make sure its clear or dust reguarly. |
