I am a new user. Since running Rosetta, my laptop cooling fan has been continually going full blast.

Is this going to cause permanent damage to my computer?

Even if you do go with a threadmaster type of software which certainly helps, you might want to consider getting a laptop cooler. I have a lapcool 2 with two fans and I think it's the best thing since sliced bread. I run my laptop 24/7 without a problem.

Don

I really recommend having a look at RMClock to reduce the cpu voltage on your laptop. I dropped my Pentium M 1.86GHz from 1.35V to 1.05V and the difference it made to the temps and the battery life were amazing (and of course the power bill too!).

You have to spend half an hour or so to test the lowest stable voltage but for me it was definitely worth it.

If want to try this and need any help getting set up then post back here.

On my sony laptop I had to replace the fan after about a year+ of full use. Then the harddisk went. After replacing the disk and setting it all up again I started using Speedfan to check the temps. The cpu fan was not able to keep the laptop cool enough. The hard disk temps were 55 deg c +. In the end I stopped using the laptop for seti. But there may be ways to keep a laptop cooler. I just dident bother in the end.

I seem to be having the problem of my computer always running at 100% unless I put boinc on suspend. I run rosetta, seti, and primegrid. (I used to run protiens, and nano@home before, but there out of work it seems) I have set all of them to the same setting, to use no more than 50% which is what I want it at. My computer right now is only using 20% with the normal jump to 30% every once in awhile. That would make the total at 70-80% and not make my cpu fan run like a banshee. I don't know why the boinc program insists on using more than I have limited it too. Is the feature of cpu limited STILL not up yet? did I miss something?

PS: I also tried to use a third party (thread master) but I have no true idea on how it works.......
Help my student project?!?
