Hey guys, my parents just bought a new computer with Vista on it, and I'd like to set up Boinc to run on it while I'm away at college. I have found that even with Boinc in the startup folder, it will not open when I start the computer. When I go into Startup Programs in the Control Panel, it says that Boinc is "Not yet classified". What can I do? I leave tomorrow, thanks a lot. |

does anyone know how to deal with this? i'm not as tech savvy as most of you seem to be. I think it is just Windows Defender that is disabling it, but I'm not sure. |

I'm not familiar with Vista yet, but "not yet classified" does sound like some sort of security setting. I did find this thread which seems to confirm it has to do with Window Defender. And that BOINC is having some trouble with that environment. I didn't read the whole thread. Perhaps you can install BOINC as a service rather then using the startup folder. windows Defender is known to diable it, you just need to allow it. Also if your going away run it as a service and better still do not install it to the default folder, but say c:BOINC. This helps it bypass some of the VISTA problems at the moment. Team mauisun.org |
