For much of the time lately I have been running two projects - Spinhenge and Rosetta. But today I stopped Spinhenge temporarily so that Rosetta can make full use of the memory. Personally I prefer the Rossetta screensaver but that is beside the point.

I'm sure there is a question in there somewhere, but I've missed it. I, for one, am all for 100% resource share to Rosetta (or 89% Rosetta and 11% Ralph, which is what I do).

Perhaps your question was about the memory usage? Were you seeing tasks go to a "waiting for memory" state?

[edit] Just checked your machine and it shows you only have 128MB of memory! So... yes, I should think you are seeing some heavy use of the swap file? Rosetta's requirements page suggests you have at least 256MB of memory.

To avoid potential damage to your machine due to high disk usage to service all the memory faults... I guess I would recommend in your case to find a BOINC project which is better suited for your machine. :(

...then I offer you the same advice. It is likely you are doing so many page faults that you aren't even fully using the CPU. These page faults are not a problem per se, but when you start doing millions per day, your disk drive is going to tire. They simply were not built to handle constant duty.

thank you very much for the advice .... but it is a very old machine ,and as long as it wont catch fire ill just run it into the ground .and then buy a new computer...it wont catch fire will it?? been running rosetta for 6 mo.now with no problems computer is set to do work only when idle..
