Wonders how a 'user' that is reported as not active in last 30 days can be a 'User of the day'. |

Wonders how a 'user' that is reported as not active in last 30 days can be a 'User of the day'. I also wonder how a user (eg myself) who has contributed for a very long time and is in the top 300 in the world but has no Avatar, never gets picked. Lots of times users get picked who have done hardly any work for the project and may in fact not contributed for months or even a year, but having an Avatar gets them picked over ones that don't. others seem to be picked multiple times, and I don't think it is all down to people voting for them, some have become 'user of the day' when they have 0.00 points against their name and have never posted so no one would know who they even are in order to vote for them. Looks like I will have to work out how to get a picture to upload, if only I can get the format to match Boinc. Thanks for listening, dummy spit over now. |

Sorry! Comment in my prev message about 'User of the day' should have been applied to 'Predictor of the day'. |

The predictor of the day is the lucky person that found the lowest energy model. But they didn't find it yesterday. You see after we all crunch the models, there is further study, compilation and analysis of the returned data for each batch of work. This often takes a month or two. Which is longer then the history of the completed tasks remains in the database for the @home portion of the work done in BakerLab. Conan is right about user of the day. I believe it was a simple matter of wanting the home page to look more interesting with a user's photo etc. I look forward to your comments about the ease-of-use of the instructions on creating an avatar in the FAQ I've gotten stalled working on. To emphasize my point about the user of the day, today we had "Miroslav" (9/8/07) and the last contact with the Rosetta servers by this person was on the 18th May 2006. This does not seem fair to other, currently active users. |

This does not seem fair to other, currently active users. I have been a member for quite a while, and frankly I don't give a damn who is user of the day. It's random, fair enough for me. My ego doesn't need additional stroking. Wave upon wave of demented avengers march cheerfully out of obscurity into the dream. |

This does not seem fair to other, currently active users. That is great to see, but others like to have some form of recognition for what they do and it has nothing to do with their ego. Random? yeah? well, maybe. |

Have you heard the expression "Different strokes for different folks"? I don't care who is user of the day either but it does seem logical and reasonable that if Boinc is going to have this "feature" then it ought to perform a useful function like selecting someone who is actively contributing to the project, otherwise the "feature" might as well be removed in future releases to avoid the cpu waste. This does not seem fair to other, currently active users. |

It is my belief that UotD gets an e-mail telling them that, if so, an e.mail arriving at an inactive user telling them they have been appointed UotD may well prompt their return to the project, or DC computing had they left it completly. I know there are sites which collect and publish UotD tables for all projects. *** EDIT *** Hell, my typing is getting bad, I can spell, and see the howlers I make, but the fingers don't go where the brain is telling them to.
