during the last days I noticed something rather strange on the results on one of my machines. I am running 8 hr workunits and I almost ever got granted, what was claimed (not more than 10 credits more or less).
Claimed credits (150 to 170) did not change, but the granted credit now varies between 135 and 231 in extreme cases.

Any idea what is causing this?

The type of tasks being sent out (i.e. different targets)
coupled with the Rosetta@Home crediting system (which must be explained in the FAQ's by now, I hope anyway)

all the talk i have seen on this subject seems to point to the amount of L1 cache the cpu has and the way that each work unit utilizes this cache. not to mention how the processor its self works the cache. some work units are huge and work well on newer cpu chips and not so good on older systems. some work units are just complex enough to get bogged down a bit in your cpu than in the total average time of all other cpu's being used for this same kind of work. so your credit goes down, other work units are simpler in the model design and your cpu can process the information faster.

lately my credit has been all over the place from +5-10 points to -10-20 points so my graph of average credit is looking very sawtoothed at the moment. just luck of the draw really on what gives your good credit and what doesn't. that is i believe the most simple and general overview of this subject.
