You set your connect to internet every ... days to .01? So you want BOINC to connect 100 times a day? Seems a bit extreme. When you update to the project, it tries to assure you've got enough work to keep you busy until the next time BOINC will connect. Since you told it to connect 100 times a day, it knows it doesn't need to get much work to meet that goal.

Not sure what you mean about w.e. If you want more work on-hand (for example if you know you will turn off your internet access, but have your computer running) then you want to set the "connect to network every ... days" setting to something larger. The default is .1, which is 10 times per day. If you set it to 1.0 then it will attempt to keep a day of work on your computer, once you update to the project to get the settings change down to your machine.

Thanks! my internet is very spotty as it's wireless..I always wanted to know how to get more work for it. Now all I need to do is go change all the settings. is there a way to change that setting from the advanced view or even the simple? I haven't been able to find it, also is there a way to command boinc to give me more work units? And finally, if I set the connection time to once a day, when does it connect? what time?

Here are my settings

Use at most 1 GB disk space
Leave at least
(Values smaller than 0.001 are ignored) 1 GB disk space free
Use at most 5% of total disk space
Write to disk at most every 60 seconds
Use at most 50% of page file (swap space)
Use at most
Enforced by version 5.8 and greater 60% of memory when computer is in use
Use at most
Enforced by version 5.8 and greater 70% of memory when computer is idle

which are really strange because I hit edit and I get this

Use at most Gbytes 10
Leave at least 3
(Values smaller than 0.001 are ignored) Gbytes free
Use at most 25% of total disk space
Write to disk at most every 60 seconds
Use at most 80% of page file (swap space)
Use at most
Enforced by version 5.8 and greater 70% of memory when computer is in use
Use at most
Enforced by version 5.8 and greater 70% of memory when computer is idle

Can anyone tell me which one of my boincs are overriding this??
I checked every single one and set them all to the same thing then reset my projects...agian. It still shows up the same

Your Linux box is on an older version of BOINC. 5.4.11.

Hmm, I will check it this weekend and see about updating.

Perhaps you were referring to your RAC?? That is your average credit per day. Different from work units (which are now called tasks).

Quite right, I was incorrect in my terminology. I have been averaging approx. 500-750 RAC/day between two machines (my fast Linux box and my slow, older Windows box).

even though I changed the 1GB problem to 5GB it still tells me there is not enough space.

I would just reset the project via the projects tab on the BOINC manager and see what happens. Your using which version? 5.8? According to the Disk tab on the BOINC manager, how much space of your drive is free and how much of that space is being used by the other projects? At 5GB I would think you have more than enough room for all the projects. Have you closed the program and started it again? If that doesn't work did you reboot you computer and restart the program and see what it says? If none of these things work then you might have to uninstall and reinstall again.

Anybody else got some ideas?

I went ahead and changed the settings to now use 10 GB and keep[ 1 free. i also changed how many days of work it should send so it sends me a smaller packet size. I went ahead and reset the program then closed it shut down and rebooted. I will wait untill it sends me another WU. I also went ahead and tried to tell it to give me work but the server must not want to hand any out to me right now. I dont know what version I am running as well.
the manager tells me that I have more than enough room to run the programs as well.

OH and i also changed "dont use more than "(now)50%" of hard drive space.

guess we will see
