I see that the - is used very much on the boards
and not in what I would call a good way.

Other Boards on Boinc has taken the measure i suggest
and only has the report_post.png to use.

hmmmm..... was just over to Cafe Rosetta, I see what you mean.

Doesn't really bother me, I wear as a badge of honor the negative ratings from certain user(s).

But if it bothers others, I wouldn't object to switching to a "Report this Post" feature, taking the decision away from user(s) with questionable motives.

How long before my/our post(s) receive a negative rating?

i think its probably automated - i can't imagine anyone is sad enough to do that on the scale it's been happening here!

what you got is alot of lamers out there retaliating for being minused due to their not posting approiate content in the board they are in. Cafe Rosetta got spammed twice by the same lamer today. So to get them out of the cafe the only way is to minus them. There are others who abuse the system. But how else are we going to alert whoever gets the alerts or whatever of the plus or minus system to get call attention to these problem people?

I had noticed this as well. If you go to your account from the main R@H page, then pick 'message board settings', you can change the number of negative ratings it takes for posts to be filtered. For some reason mine was set at -1 so I had a lot of posts hidden. . but it hasn't been a problem since I changed it to -10.

FWIW

I still have preferences set to filter posts with a rating of -1, but I make a point of going to all affected posts that I see and reading them.

If I don't find them objectionable (and I haven't found one yet) I put my own +1 on them

Of course, I'm only one user, so if the post has a rating less than -1 I can't resurrect it on my own.
