Has anyone ever tried running Rosetta on an Intel Itanium II processor? I know they're not x86 but I'm sure someone with a bit of code-writing where-with-all could do it... |

It should be posible to let x86 binaries running in the emulation mode on IA64 at Linux, and PARISC binaries in a emulation on HP-UX. Not shure if this works with Windows. But, the performance should be not good. So a recompalation to the native plattform would gave the best throughtput. Btw. SIMAP and SETI have native binaries for IA64 on HP-UX and Linu |

Btw. SIMAP and SETI have native binaries for IA64 on HP-UX and Linu What have this do with the "top computers" ? - I have compared the perfomance between applications which was compiled native for the IA64 platform and the emulation of binaries from a other platform. And yes, the native compiled SIMAP and SETI applications are a lot of faster compared with the emulated. Also, the IA64 is a server CPU, which was designed for a hugh IO throughtput, but the perfomance of SIMAP and SETI is quite good, too. |

Wow, I don't actually have an Itanium myself, but I know they're pretty nippy, put a quad C2D to shame. I wonder, how easy is it to get hold of an Itanium and compatible M-boards etc, because I can't really find any... |

Wow, I don't actually have an Itanium myself, but I know they're pretty nippy, put a quad C2D to shame. I wonder, how easy is it to get hold of an Itanium and compatible M-boards etc, because I can't really find any... As second hand, there are some available at ebay, or at a specialized computer shop for refurbished or return of leasing Unix systems. But both are not cheap. I am looking for a HP Itanium workstations for HP-UX some time ago, but a good system (Fast CPU(s), >1 GB Memory, SCSI drives,..) is about 800 to 1000 Euro at Ebay. @Tiago : At the BOINC third party page (boinc.berkeley.edu/download_other.php) is a complete overview of the BOINC clients and SETI applications for not offical supported platforms avialable. At the BOINC wiki is a overview of the different supported platforms by the different projects available. |
