I know that the tech guru of RAH left some years ago, but honestly, now this has become a real hit and miss project. With all the big banner logos on the home page you would think they would have someone on call to fix these kind of things. How long have we been "dry" now? A few days and no news? Insane. I've been around since 2006 and ever since the "Guru" left, this projects attention to technical details has gone down and the silence out of the group is deafening. Most of now just shrug and let our other projects take over, but this has always been my top project. Now I am beginning to think less of it due to these issues. |

I would have to agree, even a simple “no more work until next month” would set expectations. |

Communication has always been pretty lousy but I've accepted that, I guess. Now as to why we are without work... well, since we have no information, one can only speculate. When I look at Robetta, I see like 10 pages of work being submitted every day. And yet, none of that reaches Rosetta@home like it used to in the past. Why? I'm assuming it's because of RoseTTAFold. All those work queues are set to be run using RoseTTAFold and not standard Rosetta. And as we know, RoseTTAFold runs on GPUs. So I'm guessing that the Web Server the Baker Lab set up for the Robetta RoseTTAFold jobs is handling all that. https://www.ipd.uw.edu/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Baek_etal_Science2021_RoseTTAFold.pdf - RoseTTAFold paper, just search for GPU. I dunno, just a theory. |

How long have we been "dry" now? A few days and no news? Good luck....I haven't looked there ever. If they can't get news here, how are they going to do it on Twitter? |

Communication has always been pretty lousy but I've accepted that, I guess. Interesting theory...quite plausible. So why don't they just come out and say they are out of work for Rosetta. Chicken? Can't be bothered? So "everything " is being directed to the neural network now, classic computing takes a back seat and waits for leftovers. Saw this at a Texas BOINC project. Occasional scraps that did not fit the supercomputer model were sent to BOINC DC server. You could run a week and then be blank for months. Something says the higher funded projects will start using neural networks and super computers to do the work and classic DC will be a thing for lower funded projects and scraps. |

Something says the higher funded projects will start using neural networks and super computers to do the work and classic DC will be a thing for lower funded projects and scraps. I think it's not a problem. Boinc was born for science projects without high founds. Little teams, little hw, big ideas, this is the base of distributed computing. There are also other considerations: - not all simulations can be "fitted" in neural networks (like not all software can run in gpus, for example). - RoseTTAFold is great for folding, but not, for example, for docking. So some simulations still needs "old" computing. |

Hi, There is some work but few ...
and fewer for PCS with low memory like 2GB |
