When I am running tasks on my Mac mini with the new M1 chip, they work fine and progress rather quickly.

However, when I look at my account, it says that all of the tasks encountered an error when computing.

I noticed that this only happens when my computer goes to sleep. As long as I keep it awake, the tasks run just fine.

Is this a programming error (something to do with sys call handling), or should I configure my computer to not sleep?

Your BOINC version appears to be the latest and I doubt there are disk errors.
Have you tried a project reset? Maybe when the MAC suspends, Rosetta can't, for whatever reason, access the files again?

Do you run other BOINC projects? Any errors?

You’re not the first person to report trouble with an Apple M1. The tasks all seem to be failing with signal 4 (SIGILL / illegal instruction) which suggests the problem might lie in the other Rosetta. The apparent connection to the computer sleeping might be a red herring, but it certainly wouldn’t hurt to try disabling sleep for a while and see whether any tasks manage to complete.

I may of had the same problem as I was getting a few computing errors when I first set up bionic on the m1 mac mini.
But since I've got mine configured as not to sleep, and I don't have any problems, and its been happily running for about 3 weeks.

On average I'm getting around 700 credits per task (lows of 300 and highs of 1000) which is about double of my old 2013 iMac (with i5-4570), which I am surprised with seeing as rosetta is running with rosetta... if you see what i mean.

I have it set-to run on 3 cores and with that is only pulling 24 watts from the wall socket.

I have set a screen saver to start after 5 minutes and set the mini so that it will not sleep when the display is off.

Now I will wait and see if this fixes the issue.

Impressive. That’s more than three times the credits per kilowatt·​hour I get with my old Xeons…
(But given that I use my crunchers for heating, it would be quite an outlay to replace them all with enough Mac Minis to keep my flat warm…)

The Mac mini is not hot enough even keep my coffee warm, so no chance with your flat :-)

Roughly for the same amount of work that the Mac mini is doing a day, my old work dell tower (i7-4xxx) is pulling around 100 watt (if I’ve rembered correctly), and again for roughly the same amount of work my pi cluster is 45 watts and runs just warm enough to keep coffee at a reasonable temperature.

I have confirmed that this does work.

The mini does not go to sleep and the tasks complete successfully.

To get the machine earning the right amount of credit, run the BOINC CPU benchmarks (Advanced view » Tools menu » Run CPU benchmarks).
