If you want 15 kids, you had better start figuring out how they can feed themselves and where they can live on this already overcrowded planet. There are too many of us already. I think he was saying he's himself 15 years old today, not that he wants 15 kids. Heh. |

I know that I am contributing to a worthy project - it will help. I am presently sitting at just under 48,000 credit points towards the Rosetta Project, and I am proud to be approaching 50,000 points. For me this is a realistic first solid milestone. I have several computers, all with good fast CPU’s running Boinc projects that I feel I should contribute to, but Rosetta is the first project that I signed up to – It is close to heart. As a former student of Molecular Biology, and someone that is extremely enthusiastic about protein structure science I take pride in my limited contributions towards the development of protein science. Long may it continue, develop and influence. Thank you for developing and forwarding this project, |

I don't have a top 10 list of why I run Rosetta@home. The reason I run it is because it is a project that I feel is going to greatly improve the life of mankind. The better that we understand protein structure the closer that we get to finding cures for genetic diseases such as the terrible Tasacs disease. |

Reading these top 10 lists should encourage the project team. Each team member might want to find one post, print it and keep it in sight. 10. I like to build fast computers and all of them need something to do. 9. Lots of computers can heat the house in the winter 8. I need a reason to keep collecting computers (we need some racks) 7. The science - the hypothesis will be either be proven or dis-proven. 6. Justification for my next computer build project 5. I did not know that computers have an "off" button :-) 4. My late mother-in-law 3. Help people 2. Teach our children about science and helping people 1. Wipe out disease as we know it I hope to have my next computer crunching R@H in March of 2008. Keep crunching R@H. Thx! Paul |

Sorry this is only one reason But I think this sums it up. There are much more motovated people in this world than me, They want to help anyone (even me), they are smarter than me and somehow, They want my help in some way. Good on ANYONE who has 1/2 of an idea, they deserve a hand in ANY and EVERY way. Maybe you hero's will save my life or someone close to me. I'm not a person on the cutting edge of technology but respect anyone with the goal of helping. So a BIG thanks to the people on the frontline, financing the front line and of course everyone just trying to put in. "An attempt is better than doing nothing". "Ignorance is not bliss". |

10. New GPS guided folding algorithms. 09. No real time rules here. 08. "Client Error", where have I heard that before? 07. Rosetta Schmetta. 06. My CPU needs a workout. 05. I've downloaded everything else, I'll try this. 04. I need to save the world! 03. Over 70,000 subscribers can't be wrong!! 02. "Nice" Hair, my mop is jealous! 01. Who is David Baker? |

I don't need ten reasons. Two is more than enough. 1. R@h is the first BOINC project I've found that's both out of beta test and working on something that will eventually help diabetes research. I have type 2 diabetes. See the thread on zinc-binding proteins if you want to see why it will help. 2. I have some online friends with cancer. |

Perhaps it will encourage the medical profession to address diseases more an not just symptoms. Once we understand proteins better, we'll unlock magic that we didn't know existed. Later, we'll look back on our current state of affairs and be proud of what we contributed to. |

I. To better the world II. To better the world III. To better the world IV. To better the world ... X. To better the world That are sufficient reasons to participate by the project. |

Hah, my top ten reasons are kinda messed up but whatever #1 I'm a BOINCaholic and Rosetta always has work #2 Research being done has infinite potential #3 Curing diseases is well worth my wasted CPU time #4 I want to help cure all of the below #5 I have narcolepsy #6 I have tourette's syndrome #7 I have epilepsy #8 I have OCD #9 My family has a history of cancer #10 My friend told me to |

why i stop crunching Rosetta: i've crunched it for ages now, and the last days, weeks have used me with all those servers problems: is admin has gone ? repeatedly http errors can't download / upload well, i restart when serious people at Rosetta team will take care of volunteers patience, cpu time & our electricity bill. (could add power earth saving) |

My top 10 reasons? Easy! 10.) Intel Core2 Q8200@2.33Ghz, CPU0 9.) ...and CPU1 8.) ...and CPU2 7.) ...and CPU3 6.) Intel Xeon W3505@2.53Ghz, CPU0 5.) ...and CPU1 - That's six cores total; CPUs that spend 80% of their time doing nothing! 4.) BOINC makes it sooo easy to use my spare cycles instead of wasting them as heat... 3.) ...to potentially make a difference for our world. 2.) If I can save at least one person from a debilitating disease... 1.) ...it'll be totally worth it. Thanks for the opportunity to make a difference! -don |

Something I'd LIKE to see in this thread: Messages saying that the Rosetta@home software has become as reliable as it was back in 2006 again, and messages saying that the Rosetta@home project team has resumed being as responsive to participants as it was back in 2006. Sadly, I don't think either is likely to happen soon. |

1.) No better way to use a computer than to help people 2.) has unforseen benefits in relation to current and future science 3.) Makes you feel better about yourself 4.) Burns karma automatically :) (maybe, maybe not) 5.) Uses electricity in a different way than to merely light your home 6.) Ensures a place in the spiritual plane when you die( maybe, maybe not) 7.) Does the most amount of humanitarian work with the least amount of effort by you. 8.) You can do science without doing science :) 9.) |
