Message 107763 - Posted: 21 Nov 2022, 12:06:14 UTC - in response to Message 107754.

i'm suspecting it is due to the fact that more physical work (lab tests, writing papers etc...) must be done before a larger batch comes out, current sparse tasks may be results of some computers exceeding the deadlines and tasks needing to be re-sent
not having any insider knowledge, just my hypothesis might be right might be totally worng

Uh, i've lost this interesting message from DK

"There are plans for more python tasks, but we are still working on creating the new disk image for the VM."
I hope they will use the new virtualbox wrapper

I wonder if the next line might provide a clue to the answer to your question

"This image will likely be larger in size since we hope to run some of the latest deep-learning based methods for protein design and validation"

I've found he writes very efficiently, so it's worth reading every word he writes

That said, I'm thinking of asking for a status update next week, so if you can point me to what you're referring to wrt this 'new virtualbox wrapper' I'll slip it into his train of thought.
You never know.

The latest virtualbox wrapper released by Boinc admins supports, for example, multiattach disk images

Multiattach mode images can be attached to more than one virtual machine at the same time, even if these machines are running simultaneously. For each virtual machine to which such an image is attached, a differencing image is created. As a result, data that is written to such a virtual disk by one machine is not seen by the other machines to which the image is attached. Each machine creates its own write history of the multiattach image.

Technically, a multiattach image behaves identically to an immutable image except the differencing image is not reset every time the machine starts.

This mode is useful for sharing files which are almost never written, for instance picture galleries, where every guest changes only a small amount of data and the majority of the disk content remains unchanged. The modified blocks are stored in differencing images which remain relatively small and the shared content is stored only once at the host.

That's very clear, thanks.
I'd hope they'd be onto this anyway, but no harm in making sure.

You might guess - I've forgotten to even ask. Thanks for the bump.

I'm back home in 2 days - and quite busy tbh, but I hope I can remember to chase up the latest status

Ah, ah, ah, no problem :-)

I've finally got around to sending an email for an update and included your links to the new Vbox wrapper and thread on multi-attach disks
Let's see what comes from it.

If it wasn't obvious already, I got no response to this email at all.
Whatever access I thought I had seems to have disappeared since last September,
It was good while it lasted

I just rejoined after some time. I see no project data coming at all. Is the project still active?
