I just checked my 16 core 2950x machine and found that it ran out of Rosetta work, maybe the scientists are on vacation?

I'll bet you didn't ask for more WUs in your letter to Santa.

Much to my great surprise, I've just grabbed 8 tasks and seen there are 14k+ mini-Rosetta tasks available!

I hope this lasts over the holiday period. Fingers and toes crossed.

I am wondering what it means. The fact that you got some work shows that not everything is shut down for Christmas; there must be someone there to generate work units.
On the other hand, it appears that the science is not being produced at this time, and perhaps won't be until sometime well into January. Maybe someone at Rosetta could comment.

I'm beginning to appreciate why staff seem to take their holidays in the wilderness, out of communication with the world.

As it happens, I've been working today and will have a final 10hrs tomorrow, but no reason why everyone would have to.

Expect the worst, hope for the best and chose your back-up project wisely.

I've just realised that all those tasks that were showing as downloaded but never appeared in our task-lists (14 Dec) expired on 22nd Dec.
I now strongly suspect the tasks were simply being reissued and aborted when they arrived at the new user.
Point is: no manual intervention - we're on our own until New Year.

No, don't thank me...

Merry ChristmasHappy Holidays one and all from this side of the pond.

What present did you get? Seems like I got 14,000 more Mini-Rosetta tasks. Where did they come from?

Anyway, my New Year resolution will be not to make any more daft predictions...

Not personally, you understand...

...and it seems like they've all been gobbled up by hungry users. This can only lead to indigestion...

I too am out of work units and have been for at least a week, maybe longer, across 6 machines. Is there anyone from Baker Lab who can tell us what is going on?

We can't have any reasonable expectation of a response from the project between Christmas and New Year - but...
...I left the house 9 hours ago with no tasks and just returned to find 24 here - and another 14k tasks still available to grab

So while we can't reasonably expect anything, batches of work do appear to be coming through from someone. Thanks at least for that.

This is such a large project that when it runs dry, a lot of PCs are left without work to do. Then, when more WUs are available, they are sucked up quickly to refill all the buffers.

I think it is a sign that this time of year, they don't have enough science being produced. We probably won't see steady production for at least a week or two.
Since I am on Linux, I put that machine on GPUGrid/QC. They need the help, and it will be good competition for Rosetta.

Yup. I also saw that two of my machines grabbed some tasks 4 hours after your post (and 2 didn't) but again all wiped out by the time I realised.
Something is happening, just nothing like enough to keep everyone happy.

My expectation, based on absolutely nothing but a guess, is week commencing 7th Jan - and not even the beginning of it.
My memory is that we've had to wait until the end of January at worst before reliable availability

One of my machines grabbed 4 or 5 tasks and now waiting for new work. I just added cosmology@home as my backup project.

It just seems odd when I walk past my office and don't see the Rosetta screen saver running.

Best new year's wishes to all the Boinc'ers out there!
