Your personal background.
I am a systems analyst, DBA, programmer, and systems manager of an HP 3000 system. (In other words, I'm more or less a Swiss Army knife in the data processing world.) I've been in data processing for 27 years, and have worked on mainframes, mid-ranges, minis, and PCs.

Hobbies include beer making, flying, hiking, and traveling.
Your opinions about Rosetta@home
I joined the distributed computing effort with the SETI project in 1999, then added Einstein in 2005. When Rosetta came online, I jumped on it immediately, and managed to gather even more machines that work soley on Rosetta.

You see, I have a brother with ALS (a.k.a. Lou Gehrig's disease) and a sister-in-law with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Even though Rosetta is not directly trying to find a cure or treatment for either of these diseases, I believe it will advance our understanding of the molecular workings within cells, etc., and that in itself may help those with ALS or MS. If you have ever known someone with ALS or MS, you will understand how horrible these diseases are, and why many of us so desperately want to find cures.

So I applaud and thank all contributors to the Rosetta project. Perhaps some day soon a breakthrough will be found, allowing us to unfold the inner workings of the many diseases afflicting humankind.
