Servers being randomly up and down over a considerable period, it does need a thorough going over
Let's hope they find and resolve everything...

As i said in another thread, i don't know if the servers are the ones described in server status page, (maybe the page is not updated).
But, if it was true, their sw are VERY old and no longer supported (File system: ZFS on Linux v0.7, OS: Ubuntu Server 16.04)
The latest version of Ubuntu Server is 24.04 LTS and ZFS is 2.2.4 (now OpenZFS)

I know, i know.....the update/upgrade of the servers are not easy and without worries, but maybe it's the time....[/i]

I remember when they updated those servers after previous problems. so I'm inclined to think the information remains accurate...

The lights are on, but is anybody home?
It's been 3 weeks, and still no updated application over at Ralph. And here all but a couple of servers have been MIA for over a week.

On the plus-side, it's summer here, so less compute-Watts results in less cooling costs.

The problem is all the tweaks that most projects put in often get moved around in the newer versions so the notes people left are often pretty useless without a lot of hunting and pecking to find where things are now. And then apparently some things are in multiple places so if you don't change them ALL things don't work like you want them too, In short it's far from smooth especially when some projects run thru Admins like water so putting it off until you can't wait any longer is often better than tackling it little by little over the next 6 months or more.

You set me off to look.
I think it was somewhere around June 2017
Does that match those software versions?

The project has continuously problems.
We are willing to bear the problems of a migration/upgrade. (they have also a beta project - Ralph - to try)

Roughly.
Ubuntu Server 16.04 was released on 21 April 2016.

Just switch to WCG while you wait. (or any other BOINC project)
Problem solved :)

Denis has no work.
CPDN has no work for Linux machines.
WCG has work from time to time only for MCM1, but not the other four projects they pretend to support.

And I see one of our favourites, Universe@Home has also been down for a long time.

Guess it's MCM then which is what I'm onto now.

What about LHC if space is your thing? I don't run Linux so a VM is the hassle for me there.

Rosetta is no longer consistent with work. They use their AI for most stuff now. So it's hit and miss here.
You can find other tasks related to bio science if you look.
DENIS@home is about a very technical model that has to do with heart function.
SiDock is a drug exploration project. They are working on something for Ebola now.
GPU Grid is a medical project as well.

Outside of BOINC you can try folding at home. They get work from universities who take models from Baker Lab, not necessarily stuff we have worked on.

I think the rest keep it in house for doing their research.

What's left here is astronomy, physics and high level math as you are already attached to a few of them.
