What is the room ? ie., what is it`s use ? I use the Dulux heritage range http://www.heritagepaints.co.uk/victorian_colours.html It all depends on what the room is used for and what sort of furniture goes in (modern/antique) but you can get away with a mix with some of these colours. I don`t know if this range is available in the US though. Not all Czech`s bounce but I`d like to try with Barbar ;-) Make no mistake This IS the TEDDIES TEAM. |

carl - That's the rub. I won't know. It's in a house I'll be renting out. Technically it's a bedroom [smallish by US standards, average by UK]. Previous owners already have a yellow room across the hall or I'd go with that. Entire house nicely done in neutrals - yellow, cream, beige, office in a burgundy red w/ wallpaper base and border [golf theme], some forest green striping in one bathroom [narrow against a cream background]. Only want to paint the 1 unfinished room before I list it as it's otherwise turnkey ready. Funnily enough, have similar line over here by American Heritage. I often choose colors from it. Been toying with the idea of going w/ a paler green to play off the yellow room across the hall and the green in the adjoining bath... But greens can be difficult in a dim room as they can seem cool unless I can find one from the neutral pallette.... FADBeens |

If the timber, door , skirting etc., is white a light blue would fit well such as this http://www.heritagepaints.co.uk/images/v_3.jpg Although still cool it will open the room up, if you go for a warmer colour you may find it will look smaller and somewhat dingy. Thanks, carl! I do have bright white trim, so that'll work. I wasn't thinking intense enough color. Sorted. FADBeens |

After painting a bathroom hot pink with dark purple polka dots, I haven't been asked to paint or for painting advice. (It worked!!! :) When I bought my business property, I asked my tenent for their color choice, and they left it up to me.. so the inside was all white except their room.. which is a bright green. They "frosted" it to make it a color they liked. Your choices sound tame.. which is probably a good thing. *grin* |

Since this house is already nicely and fairly conservatively decorated, I've only the 1 room the previous owners started work on and didn't get to finish. Once that's done, I put it on the rental market and expect to get a few tenants out of this paint job before I redo. When I finally do repaint, will go more neutral as well. But I got everything from the window curtains to the color coordinated to the wall paper shower curtains on this deal, so why mess with a good thing?? FADBeens |

why mess with a good thing?? To turn it into a great thing? Which is a great excuse when buying shoes, lingerie, and then running over to Jessicah McClintoch's and buying a black velvet dress. And a blindfold.. so it's a surprise until after she's wearing it.. :) |

While I've got all you budding decorators... Has anyone ever successfully removed and raised their kitchen cabinets? My sink needs to be raised 4-6 inches, but I'm otherwise satisfied w/ el cheapo cabinets and think I could then upgrade the counter tops and save myself a bundle on kitchen renovations. Any thoughts?? FADBeens |

Spray paint it silver.. then go over it with matte black.. and put in 5 inch tall 2x2 wooden support beams every 2 feet.. and leave install plexiglass between the support beams and drop on the new 1" deep countertop. Presto! A set of giant Tarantula cages on either side of the sink. Spread the pebbles, sticks, and cricket farms in there.. and you'll have a several happy tarantula families.. If the renters don't pay.. let the tarantulas loose. *grin* |

The kitchen sink can be raised using flexi fixings quite easily. The cabinets could be raised up using a plinth under them it would have to be quite substantial though ie., use 4 x 2 as a frame with a decent plywood top. You can then finish by adding trim to the front to cover the plinth and the bottom of the cabinets which is normally recessed anyhow. Thanks, carl. This being a nice frame house with a pool and a view, thought I'd try to stay somewhat upscale. And we don't need cages for the tarantulas here. They come in quite nicely on their own with the bananas. LOL 'Sides, if it's not a local family, the 3 inch cockroaches are usually threat enough. <evil grin> FADBeens |

Puss wants to know if they taste as good as the chameleons around here? <grin> Unlike chameleons, these guys can do damage with their claws, tail, and nasty teeth (they can leave some nasty wounds even at his current age). They also run on their hind feet when they want to get somewhere fast. As fer' Puss, Larry should be ~ 3 feet long in another year and Puss wouldn't want to mess with him then. LOL BTW, wifey ain't a bit happy about the meal and wax worms in the fridge or when Larry runs around the house now. Wait until he's 3' and tries to climb into the bed. Or, when we start feeding him pinkies. Harder |

Puss is already 3 feet long but not happy about nasty teeth and claws. She's made a truce with the 5 foot snake beneath the pool deck and they hunt opposite sides. <grin> FADBeens |

Moving over to the DC Zone where I've a thread called "The Construction Zone". It's a more user friendly format and ALL my fellow posters are welcome since it is neutral ground amongst all the DC projects. Hope to see your friendly faces over there. Just not enough scope for wordplay here. |
