Anyone know where to download it? On Linux at least it appears to contain GPL licensed components (such as UPX) which would make it a derivative work (yes the GPL is strange) If in fact it is a derivative work as defined by the GPL, the source must be made available to those who request it. Thanks |

I believe the reason it's not available to download without requesting it is to reduce the chance of people running modified versions of it although i might be wrong. Out of curiosity, what are you up to? ;) |

Chris, Actually, the RAC is down a bit since the last "server burp" when you convinced me to have a backup project - I give 7 or 8K a day to POEM now. CH |

I don't know about Rosetta's code, but BOINC is a derivative work... and so BOINC is available under GNU Lesser General Public License. Rosetta's source code is available under the licenses described here Rosetta Moderator: Mod.Sense |

Mad.Sense - as always, thank you. Despite the fact that you are often criticized as being heavy-handed and unfairly compared to Sargent Schultz, your efforts are paramount to keeping this heard of cats in order. I am not interested in the BOINC source - I wanted to study the Rosetta source in an attempt to uncover and understand the truth behind many of the controversies endlessly bantered about around here - such as the suitability for Rosetta for adaptation to process on a GPU and if there are REALLY any significant performance benefits to rebuilding Rosetta as a true 64 bit client. For the past 30 years I have developed and maintained real-time operating systems used by NASA in both its Mission Control Center and on board the International Space Station. Given this experience I think that I should be able to come up with a coherent explanation as to why Rosetta is structured the way it is. I'm not looking to challenge any of the architectural decisions made, just to clear the air and maybe reduce the amount of "second guessing" of the developers you see here in this forum. Since I am not planning to use any of the software for my own project (and don't have a spare $25K) I will forgo the commercial license and submit a request under the guise of the academic licensing program. Once again, thanks for the information. CH |
