Would the project team have any objections if I were to set up a Rosetta@Home wiki using one of the free wiki website services?

I have noticed that poor communication is a frequent complaint on this forum and I have been wondering if we as volunteers can help. While we cannot provide messages on project progress, what we can do is gather up the myriad streams of news coming through this forum and present it in a user-friendly way.

We can all see that the project team has little time to maintain the information on the official website, so would some of us taking on the burden of presenting the information be of benefit to you?

Yes, but that is a single article. What I mean is to have a volunteer version of the official website.

There would be a FAQ section, Rosetta in the news, copies of Dr Baker's journal updates, news from foldit, an overview of CASP...

A lot of the information is available on these forums but few users know where to find it or want to take the time to search. All it needs is someone to collect the information and present it in a user-friendly way. Hopefully that will allow us to retain more users and possibly even attract a few more.

As a side benefit, the wiki could summarise long running discussions like "why won't Rosetta send me work for my GPU". If we can give people the information in one place it may cut down on us writing the same thread 5 times a month. At the very least the reply to any threads like that could be a link to a related page on the wiki.

I say if you feel the need go right ahead, of course what I saw counts for nothing, but I think it is a good idea to try and combine lots of tidbits of helpful info into one place. The key will be to keep it updated on a regular basis.

I have already started working on it: http://rosetta.wikia.com/wiki/Rosetta_Wiki

The benefit of it being based on wiki software is that anyone can edit it. If I am able to make an initial success of it, other crunchers will hopefully be willing to contribute.

If you can make a go of this I think you should show it to all the projects and let them use it as a model for their own Wiki!! ALL projects need something like this, some of this stuff is just plain harder than it needs to be!!!
