IBM has made a ton of discoveries over the years but hasn't always been able to figure out how to market them. For instance IBM made the cd drive for the Army so they could have their tank manuals easily accessible to all and have a standard way of delivering the manual to everyone that was the same for everyone. The Army, in their infinite wisdom, decided they could not make notes in the margins, like they did with the paper manuals, so scrapped the project.
