Are you sure ?
Look, who is on the top.... Yes, the famous animals are on the top....
now they are..and again the animals are on the bottom of the food chain
humans -> question: are humans now on top? I don't believe...
The famous animals are leading again.
animals - refer to the chart below, notice who is listed on top
who is on the top? sure, only the animals can be on the top...
the animals thought they were leading again, but yet again the humans take the lead
The lunch time is over and the famous animals are leading again.
... of the humans' breakfast and supper plates.
the animals are on top.....
no..now look who is on top
But now look who's on top...
Look who's on top
Humans kill themselve on every war!
The survivers are always the animals.
We are leading again.
Human population continues to grow at a steady pace, while animal populations are displaced and continues to decline. I'm reminded of a bumper sticker I saw years ago: "Save the planet, kill yourself" But that is ok... there is always Soylent Green...
Question: How many humans live on Earth today?
Question: How many animals live on Earth today?
We are leading again.
you proclaim that the animals are superior to humans, so if you animals wanted to survive the flood, then why didn't you guys build the ark?
Why should animals build an ark?
The famous animals are leading again.
but the animals did not know how to build the ark
The animals are studying the humans since years......
we are the leader of the world since years...
We are leading again.
but you are in a cage on a research vessel being studied by humans

unfortunately the place i work at does not have all that many desktops and they are very strict about what websites you can visit or the type of website to visit. so i don't think they would let a newcomer try and convince them to donate spare cycles while there is no or little activity on the box. which is unfortunate as there are about 10-15 floors of desktop boxes idling 60% of the time including night time. thats some good computational power sitting around idle.

If you have administration rights, it is possible....
-> but don't try it without to ask the responsible persons.....
I have the luck to donate spare cycles, but i have to configure incl. to find out the proxy server alone..

wtg friend!
well as i said, the company doesn't allow anything to be installed. not even java updates or anything. its a citrix network that the pc's are attached to. the windows platform goes through some internal server as well, no installs allowed. they even filter the internet you see. no guns, no file share, etc. even gmail pictures and picture sharing sites are offlimits. gambling the same. pretty tight controls. so no BOINC allowed. :(

o.k. you have no chance in a citrix network.
Can you plug in an USB-stick? If this is possible, you can install the software on this stick.

perhaps i can, but at the moment the desk i am has a windows CE interface and my logitech corded mouse doesn't even work on that. maybe after the students leave i can move over one desk and i think it has a actual windows for networks os on it and i can plug in my mouse and maybe a usb stick. thats not for another few weeks.

So why do you want to defy your company's IT staff and run BOINC (or anything else) against their wishes?
Seems like a good way to get fired, not to mention breaking Rosetta@Home rules.
From the Rosetta@Home Rules and Policies:
Run Rosetta@home only on authorized computers
Run Rosetta@home only on computers that you own, or for which you have obtained the owner's permission. Some companies and schools have policies that prohibit using their computers for projects such as Rosetta@home
Proudly Banned from Predictator@Home and now Cosmology@home as well. Added SETI to the list today. Temporary ban only - so need to work harder :)

In for a win after 14.5 hours at work (30 min. lunch excluded).
Take the preceding post with a grain of salt.

Exactly how is anything on a dead project's site pertinent to greggy installing software he isn't allowed to?

what are you? my babysitter or something?
are you also the official BOINC rules quoter?
it was all theoretical talk anyway...so open your brain up a bit and think before reacting.

I wish you good luck......and don't get angry about certain persons.....
Some persons can not think and react without using their brain....
