None of my two computers are pure crunching boxes. I use them for common work.
Fairly heavy usage would explain why it's taking 4.5 hrs to do 4 hrs of work.

EXACTLY!! Boinc only boxes will complete work faster, and closer to the time estimates, than pc's that do other things too.
